What is Spiritual Anthropology?
Our generation is overwhelmed—distracted from what truly matters, disillusioned, and searching for truth. There is an undeniable need for a strong foundation—an understanding of God’s purpose on earth. How do we tap into that?
Let’s ask the deep questions!
Why should the concept of SPIRITUAL ANTHROPOLOGY be on your radar?
A fundamental part of being human is curiosity and musing questions. Discoveries are made, but the journeys to the discoveries are just as worthwhile.
The words “spiritual anthropology” dropped into my brain when I became curious and began looking into why particular regions and communities are more influenced by certain issues and strongholds than others. Out of concern, I wanted to know what the spiritual roots were, and how that history connects to present day.
Societies are tapestries of many factors in the natural senses and the spiritual senses. And by that I am super fascinated.
I knew that I was meant to use the name “Spiritual Anthropology” for some sort of passion project but wasn’t sure what. Now I know exactly what and I’m happy to invite you to this experience! You can think of it as a mix of anthropological deep dives into cultures/subcultures (including western Church culture), and practical approach to the Bible.
If we’re being honest, we tend to live in our own little bubbles. But there is so much more beyond our everyday lives!
Our generation is overwhelmed—distracted from what truly matters, disillusioned, and searching for truth. There is an undeniable need for a strong foundation—an understanding of God’s purpose on earth. Yet, this isn’t something simply handed to us; it’s something we must seek His voice on, and He will gladly meet us with divine wisdom.
Let’s ask the deep questions!
So, what truly matters to God? What is the truth? More than ideas and beliefs, our destinies are intertwined with the answers. We should embrace asking such questions! When we thoughtfully consider why things are the way they are, we unlock the discovery of how God is redeeming and restoring.
Humanity was His idea after all. He became human and conquered our spiritual enemy on the cross, redeeming mankind. He gave us the Holy Spirit so that we can defy our corrupt human nature and wield spiritual authority. The union of us humans and the Spirit was always meant to be.
In the spirit realm there is also undeniable evil. It is responsible for the destruction we witness in the natural. If you are here reading this, you are likely concerned about this. You will find that this is a reoccurring theme on this blog space.
The great news is that we do not have to live on the defense, but rather on the offense! God is inviting us to partner with Him in proactively impacting the world with a goodness that is manifold and multifaced. There is a plan in action for movements of God like never before seen on this earth. Do you know that you have a part in it?
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
I do not claim to have all the answers to every topic we explore here on Spanthro. But that’s part of the fun with walking with Jesus! We don’t need to know everything…we need to need Him. There is hope for deepening our understanding and receiving revelation.
It matters to you and me, because when we have the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can be obedient to His calling on our lives.
So how do we go on this journey? For laid-down lovers of Jesus, a good starting point looks like:
A deeper, intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit who is the giver of wisdom and truth.
A genuine interest in others, choosing empathy and grace—something increasingly rare in today's world.
A willingness to seek the full counsel of Scripture, setting aside personal bias to discern God's perfect will.
Patience to wait on the Lord, trusting His timing and guidance.
We’re diving deep into a variety of thought-provoking topics that will unfold in future posts. I firmly believe in being a lifelong learner and a student of many things. The Spiritual Anthropology ride is one that is introspective, reviving, and delightfully unconventional.
Welcome to the adventure!
